A research about application of material course in industrial design education in Turkey and material studio proposal

In this thesis research, the application of materials course given in turkish industrial design education is examined and the proposal of Materials Studio as a physical course environment specialized for materials taken as subject in order to increase course efficiency. Firstly, the importance of materials course within industrial design education is investigated. Later the universities with an industrial design education background for ten years or more in Turkey and the industrial design departments researching on materials course from three different continents are visited. Surveys and interviews are done with the materials course lecturers to learn their opinions about materials course and Materials Studio proposal. Further, the materials course environments are investigated in sample industrial design departments and all obtained data analyzed comparatively. Lastly, determinations and recommendations on basic requirements of Materials Studio are made based on obtained research data.
