Abstract (EN)
The increase in energy demand with the increase in production in the world has led to an increase in fossil energy input imports, dependency and current account deficit in countries where energy resources are insufficient. Countries that are dependent on energy imports have had to allocate a large part of their GDP to energy imports. Turkey, which has insufficient resources in terms of primary energy resources, meets the energy mostly through imports. As a result of the reforms implemented with the decisions of January 24, 1980, a rapid increase was observed in energy consumption with the increase in production and consumption in Turkey. One of the reasons for the current account deficit in Turkey is energy imports. Except for the 1994 and 2001 crisis periods, which led to an increase in energy dependence and current account deficit. In this study, the effects of Turkey's energy import and dependency on the current account deficit were examined. In the first part, the relationship between energy consumption, imports, dependency and current account deficit is examined theoretically, in the second part, energy imports in Turkey, dependency, current account deficit are evaluated with various data and tables, and in the third part, energy ADF and PP Unit Root Tests, LS Double Break Unit Root Tests, Hacker and Hatemi-J Symmetrical and Time Varying Causality Tests, and Turkey's imports, dependency and current account deficit are analyzed with annual data for the period 1990-2019.
