Cost-effectiveness comparison of elder care at home and elder care in institution in Turkey

It is possible to meet literature on different subjects about old age and aging in our country. Among the literature review of this thesis, it could not be encountered to a research on gero-economics especially on cost-effectiveness of elder care services. Therefore, this study would be taken as pioneer in the field of gero-economics in Turkey and the aim of the research is being a guide for the comers'. This study includes two different researches and analyzes. The questions addressed; what is the total amount of cost of elder care in Turkey? And what is the cost effectiveness of elder care at home and at institution? In order to answer these questions economic estimation and expectation methods were utilized and it was afforded to draw a general cost picture of elder care services in Turkey. Because of the inadequate information and data on elder care services in Turkey (especially care at home), a second research was made. The aim for conducting this research was to take some clues about the preferences of families (50 family members) and services of institutions (50 care home) that are offered. It is known that the results of this research could not be generalized since the total number of participants cannot represent the population. So, the results of this second area search should be evaluated specific to the conditions of the research. It is assumed that this research will be an additive one for the interdisciplinary structure of gerontology science.
