Feminist terminology construction through translation in Turkey

The aim of this study is to reveal the existence conditions of the feminist translation paradigm, based on the relationalities established in the axis of translation activities under the field of feminist publishing in Turkey between the years 1980-2020. The first chapter of the study sheds light on the connections between the concept of feminist translation and Pierre Bourdieu's conceptualization of social action, with a focus on historical conditions that play a role in the construction of feminist translation paradigm and feminist terminology. The second chapter focuses on the basic concepts of social action, the way these concepts are handled by translation studies researchers in Turkey and around the world, and the applicational stages of Michael Grenfell's field study method to the research on translation activities under the field of feminist publishing in Turkey. The third chapter is the application of Grenfell's method to the research on the journey of feminist terms in the field of feminist publishing in Turkey. In this section, the historical journey of feminist thought, the position, profiles and tendencies of agents of translation under feminist publishing houses, and the systemic dimensions of publishing activities by popular, academic and online feminist media are discussed, respectively. As a result, it has been concluded that a feminist translation paradigm is deemed to exist in Turkey with regards to the relations between the policies of publishing houses, the agents of translation, and the publishing activities by popular, academic and online feminist media between the years 1980-2020 in Turkey.
