Compasion of sectoral competitiveness of Turkish and G-8 economies

International competitiveness is a concept that shows if a country's economy has advantages or disadvantages compared to the other economies. Fluctuations in the world economy increase the importance of the concept of competition in international trade. Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) method has becoming increasingly important in determining the competitiveness level of the countries. For this reason, in order to evaluate some policy issues, the RCA method has been used in this study.The purpose of the study is to determine the competitiveness of G-8 countries and Turkey. The data are taken from Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), the United Nations Commodity Trade Statistics Database (UNComtrade). The data include imports and exports between the years of 1990-2011. In this study, Revealed Comparative Advantage analysis proposed by Liesner, developed by Balassa, and given its final shape by Vollrath was used. Vollrath's RCA index measures the sectoral competitiveness of countries by using import and export data. As a result of the analysis, the G-8 countries and Turkey are compared in terms of their competitiveness on sectoral basis.Key words: Export, Revealed Comparative Advantage, G-8, Turkey, Import, Competitiveness
