Abstract (EN)

It is becoming the prominent view that the entrepreneurship should be dealed not just as a personal trait but also as a phenomenon which should be handled with the conditions that reveal the entpreneurship. As well as the innate personality traits that play a part, the entprenereurship takes shape from the economic, social, cultural, institutional factors and opportunities which these factors bring about; and with the entreprenerual personality traits along with physical assets, constraints and personal choices which individuals have, the entrepreneurship emerges. In this regard, this study aims to shed light on what conditions induce entrepreneurship and with what motives they do so, on the individual basis. In this regard, it also aims to contribute to the field of economic sociology. The GEM data is used in the study. In order to see the effects of economic/demographic and perceptual variables separately, various models are established and analysed using logistic regression. In the results of the analysis, it is found that personality traits and perceptual veriables are important and necessary for entprepreneurship but when it comes to entrepreneurship to actualize, they are not sufficient. The reason being, however suitible be the personality traits and perceptions for the entrepreneurship, 1- if there is no corresponding opportunities, 2- if the individuals have no adequate education to perceive these opportunities, 3- if there is no capital and income to exploit and transform these opportunities into goods and services, the probability that the entrepreneurship occur declines. According to the findings, out of perceptual variables, confidance in one's skills and abilities is the prominent variable which affects the entrepreneurship most. Fear of failure has a negative effect on entrepreneurship. When we look at the demographic and economic variables, we see that young males who are from the upper income group are more likely to become entrepreneurs. Keywords: Entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship in Turkey, factors affecting entrepreneurhip, GEM.
