The achievability status of music lesson attainments in sight-disabled peoples secondary schools in Turkey according to the opinions of teachers

This study aims to determine the music course tendency situation of students in sight-disabled people?s secondary school in Turkey, and, in accordance with that determination, to specify the actual status in music education of sight disabled students. In this content, it was found necessary to research the achievability conditions of music lesson attainments of elementary school music education in terms of four learning fields according to the opinions of teachers. The scanning method was used in research. In accordance with that, this study is descriptive.In order to determine the status of students at secondary school of sight-disables students in Turkey from the view of teachers, the schools where there are music teachers are included by scanning all the schools for sight-disabled students. The survey study was performed with music teachers in those schools. The survey was prepared by considering ?The Guide and Program of Elementary School Music Lesson Education? for Elementary and Secondary Schools for Sight-Disabled Students (old name: primary schools). Because some of the music teachers are sight-disabled, some of the data were acquired by interviewing with sight-disabled teachers. The acquired data were transformed into numerical expressions by frequency and percentage calculations. Although it varies in terms of attainments and class level; the achievability of attainments of listening, singing and playing fields of 4 learning fields of music lesson and the attainments of learning of music culture fields (except polyphony and creating music archive) were completed as positive. It was found that there were partial problems in achievability of attainments of musical sensation and learning field and musical creativeness. For achievability of attainments of musical sensation and learning field; it was seen that there were problems about basic musical letters and symbols and being known of Turkish Music Modes. It was found that Braille music composition usage in music lessons would affect musical sensation and learning field and musical creativeness field positively. In achievability of attainments of musical creativity learning field; attainments including motion such as transforming the music into dance and movement were concluded in low level because of sight-disabled situation. Also by determining that there were problems in melody vocalization; some suggestions about private education, music education of sightdisabled students were made.Keywords: Music education, private education, sight-disabled people, schools for sight-disabled students
