Abstract (EN)
A Parrhesiatik Stance in Contemporary Art in Turkey: First Round Exhibition aim to read the concept of "parrhesia", which is first encountered in the texts of Greek Tragedywriters and translated into English as "free-speech" in Turkish as "telling the truth", in the context of current art practices in Turkey. The concept of parrhesia, which French philosopher Michael Foucault re-introduced in his lectures as part of a 1983 seminar titled "Discourse and Truth" at the University of California at Berkeley, was discussed in the first chapter as part of its definition, historical development and representations in Ancient Greek Literature, and in the second chapter it was brought up in the context of selected works from the First Round exhibition opened at Galata Rum Elementary School in 2018. It was discussed whether the works selected from the exhibition could be read as a practice of parrhesia, with the nature of criticism of the identity politics of the authorities and the opportunity to read on issues such as migration, militarism, gender, nationalism.
