Abstract (EN)
There is constant development in many fields including education due to technological developments. The countries which are trying to adapt themselves to this fast development and change process are in need to revise their social systems in accordance with developing and changing conditions. It is education which makes change possible for social systems; therefore, primarily change in educational systems is obligatory. This has made education global, and information valid and recognized in each country. Teachers are one of the determinants of this change and for this reason, training qualified teachers results in qualified education. Training qualified teachers depends on the quality of teacher training faculties and programmes. Assuring quality in teacher training will lead to developments in higer education and it will be easier to follow Bologna Process. Therefore, creating physical education teacher training standards for Turkey makes the subject of this study. Physical Education Teacher Training Standards and performance indicators under these standards are shown under two titles, one of which is professional teaching knowledge and the other is private content knowledge. This study is based on single screening model and the sampling of the study consisted of 50 experts, who have completed at least their PhD and who are working at related departments at universities. In this study, the data has been collected via questionnaires which consisted of close and open ended questions and were prepared by the researcher. The aim of the researcher was to see the views on standards for professional teaching knowledge and private content knowledge, explanations for the standards and relevancy of performance indicators for these standards- whether there are statements to be changed or removed- and the comprehensibility of the questionnaires were examined by two experts.Frequency measures have been used to analyze the data. A detailed study has been done for standard titles and performance indicators for these standards in terms of agreement and disagreement and some have been changed or removed when necessary. Finally, Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) Standards are shown under two titles, one of which is professional teaching knowledge and the other is private content knowledge. There are 145 performance indicators under nine standards titles in professional teaching knowledge standard field and there are 45 performance indicators under two standards titles in private content knowledge field. Standard titles are as follows:A-PETE Professional Teaching Knowledge Field StandardsS.1. Planning Physical Education CourseS.2. Physical Education Course Teaching-Learning ProcessS.3. Measurement And EvaluationS.4. Getting Familiar With The StudentS.5. CooperationS.6. Professional DevelopmentS.7. Classroom Management And LeadershipS.8. Communication AbilityS.9. Use Of TechnologyB-PETE Private Content Knowledge Field StandardsS.1. Content KnowledgeS.2. Gaining Lifelong Sport CultureThe results of this study, which has filled a big gap in physical education teacher training standards, indicate that teacher training faculties do not pay much attention to developing standards in teacher training. It is suggested that faculties that train physical education teachers should be reconstructed so that teacher candidates will be able to gain the above mentioned standards.Key Words: Physical Education Teacher Training, Standard development
