Legal regulations for prevention of violence against women in turkey to application example of city police and Antalya

Violence to women has been one of the most important problems to be solved especially in our country as in all over the world so far. Although regulations have been put into action to solve this problem both in national and international area and many studies and activities to determine and solve the problem to activate the dynamics of the societies in academic area, violence to women is still of an important social problem. Thanks to legal regulations, many positive developments towards women who are violated or under the threat of violence have been seen and experienced. However problems based on patriarchal thoughts and social pressure cause problems in the solution and in the process of complaint mechanisms. In this study to analyze the applications towards women violated in police headquarters qualitative interviews were done to eight women suffered from violence and via this interviews women's perceptions on violence, their attitudes and behaviors against violence and legal regulations for preventing violence to women and findings gathered from women suffered violence were commented in the framework of academic literature. As a result of the interviews women from all status of the society, region and education level are still subject to violence. Most of the women suffered from violence prefer to keep their silence to violence in order to sustain their marriages, not to be excluded from the society, and not to be keep away from their children. It can be concluded that violence which is a social problem cannot be solved only by legal regulations put into action towards only women suffered from violence, the men who violate to women should also be a part of the solution and women should have their own economic independency in all areas of their lives.
