Women's position in local politics in Turkey and effects to the local decision making process: A research in political parties women branches

This study has attempted to determine the place of women in politics and for this purpose, the study starts with the definition of basic concepts related to the politics and local politics. In the second chapter, the participation of women in the political life which is the main topic of the thesis was examined in three period as Ottoman, National Struggle and Republic Period. In the third chapter, the current role of women in politics was discussed and the representation of them in parliament, commissions and local administrations was examined. In the last section, interviewed with fourteen women from three political party's women's branch and as a result of these interviews, they stated that women were not at the desired level in politics, they wanted to take part more in governing and decision-making mechanisms. And also they reported that with the aim of this Political parties, institutions and the individuals has many things to do.
