A comparative analysis of visual arts curriculum for primary education in Turkey and Canada

The aim of this study is to investigate visual arts curriculum of Turkey and Canada (Ontario) in terms of overall objectives, basic skills, educational attainment, content, learning-teaching process, assessment and evaluation process; and to compare and identify similarities and differences between them. It is also aimed to generate new ideas and perspectives about current visual arts curriculum in our country; and bring them into practice. In this study, case study method which is one of the qualitative research methods was used. The sources and materials of the study were visual arts curriculum of Turkey and Canada (Ontario). The data were collected with document analysis. Descriptive analysis one of the qualitative research method was used for analysis of the data. As a result, it was found that the two curriculum mostly has similar characteristics in terms of objectives, content, learning-teaching process, assessment and evaluation process, but there are also some differences between them. The research has included suggestions which the researcher expressed depending on the results appeared at the end of the research.
