Abstract (EN)
The banking sector as an integral part of the economy, has given impetus to its long maintained traditional activities with interest-free banking, since 1972 worldwide and 1985 in Turkey. Also defined as Islamic banking this kind of banking began to be defined as participation banking in Turkey after 2005. This type of banking, which is of great importance especially for Islamic countries, has a significant impact on the return of idle funds to the economy. Both by expanding its activity area and increasing service and product variety, aims to increase its 5% share in the banking sector, participation banking continues its activities with a total of 6 participation banks in Turkey as of 2019. As the main purpose of this study, the perspective of the Academic Staff of Anadolu University on participation banking was taken into consideration and the reasons for using and not using participation banking were asked. In the first part of this study traditional banking, in the second part participation banking and in the third part with a survey method the point of view to participation banking is evaluated. The results of the survey obtained from 202 participants of the academic staff at the Anadolu University show that due to various reasons participants had different perspectives. It was stated that the most important reason for the low level of using participation banking is that there is no sufficient information and promotion about participation banks operations.
