Abstract (EN)
The scope of this dissertation is the exploration of the incentives provided to the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises through an empirical research process. In recent years, the importance given to the SMEs both in the developed and developing countries have been increasing. This tendency has been more apparent within the process of high- technology development within the developing countries context. As a follow up of the successful outcomes of the SMEs in Japan and Germany, the European Union and the USA have started launching new programmes towards supporting SME initiatives. In the first part of this dissertation, the historical background of the SMEs as well as the concept of SME has been defined according to different perspectives of the nations. The need for a standard SME definition has been emphasised to enable us to analyse on the more concrete grounds. The other hand, in this part has dealt with the tendencies and developments that led such an increasing focus on SMEs in recent years. The second chapter gives overview of the advantage and disadvantages of the SMEs. It also aims at identifying the fundamental problems of the SMEs especially in organising, management, marketing, human resources, finance, public relations, legislation, export, import functions of the SMEs The third part carries on with the picture of the incentives for the SMEs in Turkey as well as in the other parts of the world. The need for the incentives for the SMEs have been justified within the framework of the relationship of the SMEs with large corporations. Also the official and non-official instruments and establishments that play crucial role in supporting and financing have been reviewed. Chapter fourth deals with the field work done after issuing a questionnaire and analysing the findings with SPSS 10.0 and the empirical work aimed at identifying the usage level of the incentives offered for the SMEs.The dissertation ends with the conclusion and recommendation part.
