Abstract (EN)

Besides, energy is a vital basic need in parallel with the economic and technological progresses, it continues to become the focus of conflicts due to being the most important factor during the increase of welfare with the development of the national economy. Accordingly, in recent years, there have been remarkable improvements of the new and renewable energy resources; however, a significant decrease has also occurred in the importance of fossil fuels. Among all the fossil fuels, coal which is of prime importance in supply security increasingly continues to be the basic energy resource.Although our country is dependent on external sources in terms of oil and natural gas resources, it has important coal reserves to be used in energy supply. In recent years, it has been increasingly attached a great importance to the natural gas in fulfillment of energy needs in Turkey, however that puts energy supply security in danger and places heavy burden on energy costs resulting in the national economy to get worse. However, the truth is put forward as coals are prerequisite for energy supply. Therefore it should further be encouraped to get benefit from these sources. In this thesis, when examining the general energy situation in Turkey, the points have been determined about how to use more beneficially the coal, which is an important energy raw material, by searching its role in energy production and increasing its share in the future energy policies. Keywords: Electrical energy, Energy, Energy resources, Fossil fuels, Coal.
