Abstract (EN)
Due to the rich resources in the coastal regions, life support, economic development opportunities, agriculture, trade, tourism, forestry, fishing and service sectors have developed. As a result, the population of settlements in coastal zone has increased over the years. Research shows that, as a result of the increase in the world population and migration, six out of every ten people live either in coastal areas or within 60 km of the coast. However, the population of the coastal zones is expected to double in 20-30 years. In this thesis study, the change in the population of Turkey's coastal regions over the years has been analysed. The main purpose of conducting this study is that coastal areas are extremely important for most coastal countries. Considering Turkey, the total land border and coastal border is approximately 11,086 km. Since the 8,333 km border line, which is surrounded by sea on three sides, is formed by sea borders, most of our borders are coastal. As a result, our country is a coastal country. In this thesis study, the population of provinces, districts and villages from 17 different years from 1965 to 2020 were examined, and comparisons and evaluations were made for the population living in the coastal regions, the zones where this population lives, and the ratio of the population in this area compared to the total population of our country.
