An analysis about using information systems on logistics sector in Turkey

Changes coming true in World Trade and information Technologies, increase of the national and international competition, have made a compulsive influence on changing of the logistics sector like many other sectors. Range of logistics activities, which were simply perceived as transport business or carrying business in the past, has extended quite fast; logistics activities have reached a very wide area containing ordering and delivery of merchandise, flow, storage and procession of raw materials, preparation of customs and transition documents etc.Besides increasing competition and changing trade movements, especially very fast improvement in the informatics sector has provided the change in the logistics intelligence and the successful improvements which one acquired in the sector. Speedup,ease and increase of reliability in the information sharing, has brought many positive effects along with, like, effective usage of time in logistics firms, saving in costs, effective management forms etc. Also Information Systems, whose usage increases day by day, with the effects of technological improvement, is a system that?s very useful and ease-providing ,when used, in logistics sector like many other sectors.In this study, logistics concept, comprehension of it and logistics sector subjects will be examined primarily, afterwords information systems will be handled, and finally the role of Information System on logistics sector will be examined by considering the cases results.
