Nationalism in conservative thought in Turkey (1939-1970)

The idea of nationalism that developed in parallel with modernization is one of the most important movements of Turkish political thought. In this study, the subject of nationalism in conservative thought shaped according to the social, political and cultural environment between 1939-1970 will be examined. Nationalism which developed under its own conditions indifferent forms such as The Single Party Period and afterwards, The World War II, The Cold War and the events and phenomena referring to nationalism will be evaluated within their context. The stance of the conservative segment in this period, which was shaped as rightist and based on anticommunism, consisted of a nationalist, sacred adopting, conservative composition . It can be said that the thinkers, who passed across these ideas, show an example of conservative and sacred adopting nationalism with their religious and national emphases and the links they established between Turkishness and Islam. The study essentially deals with the approach of those who start with Islamic references, base their onthological views upon Islam and hence are regarded as Islamists by others but see themselves on one side of the conservative school to the nationalist thought and the concepts, definitions, events and phenomena revealed by this thought.
