Music criticism in Turkey

When art institutions and art activities in Our Country are considered, this study is carried out based on the few number of the studies and publications on "music criticism"; and the descriptions of criticism, function and historical process of criticism in music, music critics and publications by the Republic Period, the status of music criticism in our country, and criticism approach are given place. In the research, besides literature reviewing; findings are reached under the title of "music criticism" by applying interview method to writers, composers, conductors and performers. Following the research, it is established that by transforming the field of music criticism into "professional field", which does not take place in the institutions in Turkey that give music education, positive contributions to the world of art could be obtained, that only objective, knowledge-based, and experience based method of the music critics will have constructive, directing, and improving influences on the performer, art-lover, and on the art of music.
