The transformation of the music sector in Turkey after 1980: The commodification process of music

The 1980s can be considered the beginning of a period in which a new culture and arts consciousness developed in Turkey. In the research, the existence of a transformation that took place due to the change and change that came with this period has also emerged as a result of the examinations made. It was one of the periods when the impact of the power of Large Private Equity Firms in Turkey on the music industry activities was felt most. In the cultural policies announced by the government of the period, there were articles stating that public and private organizations would be supported in their cultural and artistic activities. These articles constitute a basis for the privatizations that have begun to be seen in the sector since this period. The 2000s, on the other hand, stand out with the digital atmosphere that influenced not only Turkey but also the world. Advantageous changes have emerged for musicians, but problems such as copyright infringement have also become more intense. In the research, the general survey method was used by examining the sources on the subject. The findings of the research were obtained through document analysis. Within the scope of all this process and these stages, a conclusion was reached by proceeding in accordance with the purpose of the thesis.
