Narcoterrorism in Turkey and the role of Pkk/kongra-gel terror organization

ABSTRACTArmament and providing incomes are the most important elements forthe terror organizations. Although there are many alternatives in order tosurvive for the terror organizations to arrange the enough incomes from anyother kind of crimes, because the profits of the drug smuggling which is lessrisky and have less expenses on the other hand has more profits than theother type of crimes.There are many similarities between organized criminal groups andthe terror organizations. (Involving in the crimes, the members of the terrororganizations get inside the criminal organizations occasionally, prefers theplaces/areas to move easily where the authority is lacking, using the bribes,having the big capacity in using the communication tegnology, moneylaundering activities, using the celling system etc.). Therefore the narcoterrorphenomenon accures naturally under this relationship. On the other hand,based on the aims and ideologies of the terror organizations, because of thedrug related crimes are badly defined, they prefer to hide their involvementon the drug issue.While the terror organizations deal with the drug smuggling activitiesthey also use violence. So that they are able to have enough and strongauthority on controlling the drug smuggling system by creating some groupsin everywhere not to be interfered by any other groups and also using thesecrecy not to be identified of the structure. As it is known, Europe is on acritical position for the Afghani originated heroin smuggling, which mostlypasses through Turkey. Therefore PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organizationhas already involved in this drug smuggling as much as in the same areawhere the drug smuggling accures mostly.188Narcoterrorism is the terror tactics, which is being used by the drugsmuggling organizations for their illegal activities. It also means, theagreement between the drug smugglers and terror organizations. Bothparties take the advantage of the countries to be weak with the lack ofauthority and without stability and social structure. While narcoterrorismarrange illegal manufacturing, transporting and trading the drug in order tosupport terror organizations like PKK/KONGRA-GEL, it makes the nationalhumanity destroyed by increasing the population of drug addicts within thecommunity.If we look at the Turkey?s perspective, the drug smugglingorganizations have been becoming much more elastic than the hardstructure. In this situation, they make the law enforcement agencies not to benoticed/notified the leaders of the organizations and also make the membersof the organizations to be replicable. Even tough, the criminal organizationshave been becoming more mixed in Turkey and Europe and such thosecriminal organizations are still strictly connected each other based on theethnicity, culture, religion, and family.The terror activities, which are being supported directly or indirectly bythe countries, in the last time of periods especially just after September 11attacks, the countries have become more reluctant or afraid of the reaction ofany other countries or organizations because of loosing the support ofinternational public opinion. In this regard, if we look at the Turkey?s situation,PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organization was able to hide its drug smugglingactivities for a long time of period from the Turkish government and publicopinion. Because PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organization managed the drugsmuggling activities specifically by its leader/s, establishing a specific groups,which the members of those groups are not known in any terror related crime189database. On the other hand, PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organization hasestablished many NGOs in all over the Europe to arrange the drug smugglingactivities. But just after, being arrested of Abdullah OCALAN who is theleader of PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organizations, during the interrogation heconfessed that PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organizations has been involving indrug smuggling very closely. On the other hand according to the conductedoperations, which were done against not only to the PKK/KONGRA-GELterror organizations members but also against the drug smugglingorganizations, it is clarified and proofed on many occasions thatPKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organization is already in the drug smuggling.As a result of this situation, it is clearly identified and confirmed in thisthesis based on scientific informations and also by giving some operationalconfirmed official examples that PKK/KONGRA-GEL terror organization hasbeen doing drug smuggling for its incomes that we name it narcoterrorism.
