Abstract (EN)

Even though world trade is globalized, recently, standards and technical arrangements have been applied as a non-tariff in a globalized world. Literature on this subject is not deeply studied.This study examines standards and technical arrangement, which is one of the non-tariff barriers, between EU and Turkey, and how the standards, technical arrangements affect world trade are examined in this study.The purpose of this study is to find out how the non tariff barriers affect the foreign trade between EU and Turkey. Also, this study tries to explain the origin, definition and the extent of the non tariff barriers, and the explanations of new non-tariff barriers and their effects on foreign trade have been discussed in this study. The application of standards and technical arrangements between EU and Turkey and the effect of non-tariff barriers have been discussed in the following chapters.As a result, the non-tariff barriers which have been implemented in the EU are investigated in respect of Turkish economy. This study has found that the standards and technical arrangements can partly increase the costs of products and providing a number of adaptation standards and technical arrangements to Turkish economy. However, currently there is approximately 20 % adaptation problem. If Turkey is dealt with this adaptation problem, trade between Turkey and EU will increase.
