Ancient fishing findings related to Turkey's Mediterreanean coasts

Fishing is a profession that has survived from the earliest stages of humanity to the present day, and it is encountered in every geography. It met the nutrition needs of the ancient people and enabled them to earn money. Oracles made prophecies over fish. Fish and fishing scenes were painted by the artists, took place in the texts of the ancient writers, and were printed on the coins as the symbols of the cities. Within the scope of this thesis, which is limited to the Mediterranean coasts of Turkey, in the first part, the chronological history of the ancient fishery, its reflection on illustrative arts, materials used in fishing and their functions are explained. The second part describes the recipes for sauces and salt-curing methods of fish products, the regions where the production facilities are located and their construction features, and the amphorae used for their trade. The third part covers an experimental archeology study where the KK 60 coded fishing rod rescue weight has been re-used, the steps for its utilization were described and photographed. Finally in the fourth section, some of the artifacts that are recovered in the underwater cultural heritage studies including; 10 fishing rod rescue weights, 1 hook, 1 fishing line weight, 1 net weight and 4 amphorae for fish products were examined, and the ancient fishing in the Mediterranean coasts of Turkey was described.
