Representation of Turkey's accession process to the European Union in the Spanish press

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the representation of Turkey's accession process to the European Union in Spanish newspapers. All news about this accession process in El País (progressive) and El Mundo (conservative) newspapers with different ideologies will be analyzed. The selected sample will be taken from a time period between 01.01.2022 and 31.12.2022 using the discourse analysis method. For this purpose, the MyNews tool will be used, which will provide access to news filtered by media, words and dates that make up the sample of this research. The expected results are that El País portrays a more positive image of Turkey's EU membership, while the conservative newspaper uses a more negative language and approach. The expected negative attitudes include economic factors, cultural and religious differences and human rights violations. The rationale for this research is how the national press can shape citizens' public perception of Turkey's EU membership by creating a biased image of this political process.
