Özet (EN)
In this thesis study, evaluations have been made in relation to the vehicles which had been inspected between 01.01.2008 and 01.12.2009, by using inspection reports that are kept in the automation information system of the Ministry of Transportation. The conditions of the vehicles and the impact of vehicle inspections on traffic accidents in 2008 have also been researched. The type of the vehicle has been tried to be determined with the most dangerous defects amongst all the vehicles that had been admitted to the vehicle inspection stations between 01.01.2008 and 01.12.2008, and inspected between the model years 1999 and 2008.As a result of the inspections that were conducted, pickup-truck type vehicles were found those having the most dangerous defects with respect to traffic safety. In this thesis study, the impact of the age of vehicles and the model year of vehicles on the involvement of the vehicles in accidents has also been researched. It has been also discussed that whether the vehicle inspections decrease the number of traffic accidents and that heavy defects, small defects and unsafe defects that had been existing commonly in Turkey between 01.01.2008 and 01.12.2009. Whether the vehicles in Turkey are admitted to inspection or not and the number of vehicles that have not been inspected have also been to be determined. Along with the vehicle inspection stations that have been in service since 2008?s January, it has been determined that there is a slight decrease by 2% in the number of vehicles involving in a fatal-injury resulted traffic accident and a decrease by 2% in the number of traffic accidents between 01.01.2008 and 01.12.2009. However, it is estimated that whether the vehicle inspection stations have a real effect in decreasing the number of the traffic accidents and the number of the vehicles involving in traffic accidents or not is going to be determined after 5-10 years in the future.
