Sadabat Pact as part of Turkey?s peaceful foreign policy (1935 - 1939)

I. At the end of World War, the allied forces the central Powers that lost the war to make an agreement which was not so fair. Having lost the war and obliged to sign that unfair agreement, the tensions among world powers became more intense than ever. The revisionist coutries which not only lost the war but also compelled to sign that agreement were motivated to get the revenge of that unfair agreement, to improve their economies and to change the current situation of the world. The two countries which didn?t get what they expected in the war, Germany and Italy, began to follow a more expansionist policy. It wasn?t good as the world was benig drifted to another war.However, Turkey, which was trying to fill the political vacuum that occured in the Middle East after the decline of the Ottoman Empire, started to develop new foreign policies in the leadership of Ataturk in the aim of preventing any possibility of war and insuring the regional order. The Republic of Turkey proved its existence till the 1930s. During the period of II. World War, Turkey did its best to make sure that eastern frontier disputes were resolved and the attacks of Italian forces were eliminated. This struggle gave birth to the Sadabat Pact, which was established in the 8th of July, 1937. Thanks to the Sadabat Pact, the countries that signed the agreement declared their independances and proved their dominances. This Pact, which was signed in the leadership of Turkey not only helped Turkey to make clear its peace loving attitude in the world but also the divide and rule policy of the imperialist countries came to an end.Thanks to the rationalist policies of Ataturk, the western frontier with Balkan Entente and the eastern frontier with Sadabat Pact, were secured. Those rationalist policies also helped Turkey get minimal war damages in comparison to other countries, however; the chaotic atmosphere ceased the actual existence of Sadabat Pact and the Pact lost its full function due to the İran-Iraq War which occured in 1980.
