Abstract (EN)
This study examines the international competitiveness of Türkiye's textile and apparel industry by analyzing its historical development and global significance. Un-derstanding Türkiye's textile competitiveness can help identify opportunities and chal-lenges in the evolving global market. In the first chapter, the concept of competitiveness is discussed, along with key factors that influence competitive strength—such as subsidies, foreign direct invest-ment, production costs, natural resources, technology, and innovation. The second chapter evaluates Türkiye's position in the global textile market and its export perfor-mance using the HS codes 50–63. This detailed analysis helps highlight Türkiye's stra-tegic product categories and competitive advantages. The third chapter explores the historical development and trade structure of the European Union, as well as its economic relations with Türkiye. It also examines mone-tary union, the Schengen Area, and recent developments in the textile sector. Compa-rative analyses with leading EU countries—such as Germany, Italy, and Spain—highlight that Türkiye has achieved a competitive edge in cotton and ready-to-wear products. However, there is still a need for progress in high value-added and technical textiles. The fourth chapter presents analyses using the Revealed Comparative Advan-tage (RCA) index and the Logistics Performance Index (LPI). These analyses empha-size Türkiye's advantages in flexible production and geographic proximity to Europe, while also pointing out the need to strengthen sustainability-focused policies in line with the European Green Deal and green logistics practices.
