Abstract (EN)

In this master thesis, the place and importance of the symphony orchestras in Turkish musical history between the period of 1826 and 1975, is examined. With the concepts of music, polyphonic music and orchestra, the establishment of state symphony orchestras in the Turkish polyphonic music history, important developments, progresses and the relationships with the other musical institutions, are evaluated. In the thesis "The Place and Importance of Symphony Orchestras in Turkish Polyphonic Music History (The Period of 1826-1975), at first, the first examples of musical instruments in Anatolia and nearby geographical areas and a brief history of the development of polyphonic music is presented. Then, the start of polyphonic music in Turkey, the historical development from the establishment of "Muzikâ-i Hümâyun" in 1826 and the Presidential Symphony Orchestra until the year 1975, with important developments during the period, covering both the repealed and current legislation, are presented with a holistic view aiming to contribute to the literature.
