The spatial reorganization of small industry in the period of Turkey's economic liberalization: The case of Kayseri

Industrialism, especially with Industrial Revolution, is one of the most important elements of the economic systems which 's determination on the cities becomes greater. Historically all of today's developed countries have provided the capital accumulation by industrialism. Industrialism, which is an important part of capitalism, has been the most important element of capital accumulation in "developing" or "less - developed" countries especially since the middle of 20th Century. To intend to provide the developing of these countries, the most important application policies have based upon industrialism. It won't be wrong to say that industrialism has the most important place in development strategies. In this context, the location of industrial firms on urban space is important in urban, social and economic means. Because of the absence of the location criterias for the industrial firms in the first terms of industrialism caused a random dispersion of these firms on urban space. By this, it had required that the industrial firms might be gathered on special places on urban space and providing this, many planning, location and organization policies have produced. The alterations, which have appeared by the termly crisis of capitalist system and also appeared in an action - reaction process have caused another alteration in production and accumulation relationships. This situation not only have caused an alteration in the fact industrialism, but also have caused alterations in location criterias of industry. Especially the year 1980 is an important point in which sharp alterations had appeared...~*SSSRS35*IX Also Turkey has produced policies which based upon the industrialism for providing development since the beginning of 20th century. This selections perhaps have provided Turkey become a country which impressed from the world economic system. The great density rate of small industry in industrial firms and the easily located specialty of small industry provide sector's importancy to great ratios on development and organization on urban space. The marks of alteration could be easily pointed out on urban space after the alteration of world economic system after 1980's. The alteration has appeared on the development and organization of industrial activities on urban space. The sharpening places of this alteration are the industrial areas in the cities of both developed and less - developed countries. For urban planning, industry, which has a great role on providing the urban organization especially in the context of spatial re - organization of small industry, the dynamics, which determine this re - organization and the concepts which become a dominant view in last terms have caused the subject; spatial re - organization of small industry in Turkey as an important problem area. In this study, the dynamics of spatial re - organization of small industry, the associational marks of spatial alteration and the importance of re - organization of small industry as Organized Industrial Areas on urban space in urban re - organization had researched in the context of Kayseri. Providing this research, first the historical development of industrialism had examined, then the marks of this development had scrutinized and the spatial re - organization of small industry in Kayseri had researched. The method of the research is gathering information about the development of industrialism, the industrial development of Turkey and collecting information about small industry in Kayseri. And the method of conclusion is using statistical analysis techniques; the correlation analysis and two - tailed significance. And these analyses techniques had applied to the investment incitements in Kayseri in the term 1980 - 1990.
