Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, different solvent extracts of Inula viscosa plants collected from different geographical regions of Turkey were investigated for their physical and chemical properties, anti-oxidant activity, phenolic acid profile, total phenolic content, and total flavonoid content. The highest extraction yield (34.53%, g/g) was obtained for the I. viscosa plant collected from Antalya province for all extraction solvents. The geographical origin and polarity of the solvents statistically affected the acidity, whereas polarity of the solvent did not affect the peroxide value of the samples. The results have demonstrated the wide range of bioactive content and anti-oxidant activity among I. viscosa plants that grow naturally in different regions in Turkey. The polyphenolic compositions of the extracts obtained from the I. viscosa plant extracted with different solvents were found to be significantly different from each other. The highest composition of bioactive compounds and anti-oxidant activity was found in the ethanol extract of plants. Among these, I. viscosa plant collected from the Antalya region showed the highest total phenolic content and anti-oxidant activity. The maximum total phenol (634.2 ± 1.1 mg of gallic acid/g of dry extract), flavonoid (98.2 ± 0.2 mg quercetin/g of dry extract), condensed tannin (70.76 mg catechin/ g extract), caffeoylquinic acid (116.12 mg chlorogenic acid/ g extract) contents and anti-oxidant activity (IC50 = 1.37 ± 7.7 µg/ml) were determined in the ethanol extract of plant obtained from Antalya province.
