Morphological characterization of local bean genotypes collected from different regions of Turkey

Abstract (EN)

236 common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) landraces collected from 13 different provinces (Bingöl, Bitlis, Tokat, Samsun, Elazığ, Hakkari, Van, Malatya, Muş, Sivas, Tunceli, Niğde, Bolu) of Turkey and 4 control cultivars (Önceler-98, Göynük 98, Karacaşehir 90, Göksun) were used as genetic materials in this study. The field trial was carried out in experimental fields of Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences of Abant Izzet Baysal University during the 2015 growing season. The landraces and control cultivars were tested with 60 cm inter-row and 10 cm intra-row spaces in Augmented Design. Days to flowering (45-70 days), days to pod setting (53-74 days), days to maturity (90-159 days), number of branches per plant (2-12), number of pods per plant (6,67-73), pod length (7,5-23,29 cm), plant height (25,25-390 cm), biological yield (16,67-538 g/plant), number of grains per pod (2,10-13,38), number of grains per plant (13-377), grain length (7,96-12,36 mm), grain width (5,06-14,63 mm), grain yield per plant (3,47-215,27 g), 1000 grain weight (105-1583 g) were determined as agro-morphological parameters of common bean genotypes in this study. According to obtained data, it can be said that the Turkish common bean landraces have shown a large genetic variation and the morphological data of these landraces can be helpful pratically for common bean breeding programs.
