Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the reasons for new protectionism wave emerged from since 1970?s, it?s differences from traditional protectionism and analyze the presence of anti-damping applications which are one of the most important tool of the new protectionism in terms of Turkey?s import. The first part of the dissertation explains the historical development of new protectionism, non-tariff barriers used by this wave and the effects of new protectionism on world trade. In the second part, firstly, the term of ?damping? is defined in aspects of economics and law. Secondly, the conditions, objectives and the effects are elaborately studied within the WTO Anti-Damping Agreement framework as well as GATT rounds. Besides, from 1994 in which ADA was signed to now, the trend of anti-dumping applications both in Turkey and in the world is examined. In the third part, the anti-damping measures that are used in Turkey?s import are analysed by using statistical data.To understand the effects of the anti-dumping applications on our import volume, the date in which anti-dumping duty implemented is compared with a year later. Consequently, it is understood that the import of the definite products declines after anti-dumping duties are applied. On the other hand, it is examined that import of some products increases though anti-dumping duties.
