Abstract (EN)
Intra-industry trade (IIT) is two way of trade of goods and services which belong to same industrial classification group. Since the beginning of the 1980s foreign trade of Turkey has increasingly showed a great diversity in terms of country groups but the OECD countries have constituted the biggest group. The aim of this dissertation is to examine foreign trade relations between Turkey and the OECD countries with respect to intra-industry trade. This dissertation is motivated by two research questions. The first question is how the extent of IIT between Turkey and the OECD has made progress in the period 2000-2010. The second question is whether the IIT between the two sides shows a significant change in terms of the degree of technology intensity of products. The Grubel Lloyd index is used to measure the extent and the growth pattern of the intra-industry trade of Turkey with OECD countries. The main conclusion of this thesis is that while there are some differences in the extent of IIT between Turkey and the OECD countries in the period 2000-2010, a higher degree of technological sophistication has been found in the products of IIT between Turkey and especially the EU-15 group of OECD countries.Key Words: Intra-Industry Trade, Grubel Lloyd Index, Turkey, OECD Country.
