The role and importance of solar energy in Turkey's energy policies after Treaty of Paris

Energy, which constitutes an important part of our daily life, was largely limited to the physical strength of people until the 1800s. Especially with the Industrial Revolution, the power of the machines was started to be used and the works that required a lot of time started to be completed in a short time. The need for energy has also increased with the ease of machines and the ever-increasing population. Extensive non-renewable energy sources have been used to meet ever-increasing energy needs. Due to the intensive use of non-renewable energy sources such as oil, coal and natural gas, global warming has occurred and climates have started to deteriorate. Since 1970s, the use of renewable energy sources that have no or little harm to the environment has started to increase, especially solar energy being an infinite energy source has increased the studies on this issue. Environmental conferences have started to be held with the participation of many countries in the international arena in order to reduce global warming and its effects, which is a major threat to the world. The decisions taken at the conferences were not implemented, and because of the agreements don't have enforcement power, the issue was not given sufficient importance. At the Paris Climate Summit held in Paris in 2015, steps have been taken to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees until the end of the century. The climate summit, which was held with the participation of very large masses, has brought serious steps and sanctions to reduce global warming. After US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Treaty of Paris, the agreement was in danger and this decision caused great reactions. Turkey has participated actively in international environmental conferences and has made the necessary plans and programs. Turkey in the overall energy policy has increased constantly over the years, the share of renewable energy and has created incentive programs to use its potential in solar energy and has given producers a guarantee of purchase. In order to increase the share of solar energy in electricity generation, solar energy was included in the 2023 and 2030 targets. Turkey decided to suspend from the agreement after the United States, the Treaty of Paris was suspended but continued to accelerate renewable energy efforts.
