Evaluation of Turkey's policies for unaccompanied refugee children in the context of human security

In this thesis, the scope of the concept of security in the discipline of International Relations, the processes of the traditional security understanding that have evolved over time into the understanding of human security are discussed. In the 1990s, the state-centered security approach was replaced by a human and society-centered security approach. When we consider security as all kinds of situations that create fear on people or the inability to meet their basic needs, especially the civil war, conflict, economic deprivation, and migration movements that emerged after 2011 have focused security studies on the field of irregular and forced migration. In this study, the work done as a country on the fulfillment of children's rights to education, shelter, care, health, and safe living within the framework of international agreements on human security and national legislation and whether the states that are party to the agreements signed for human security fulfill their responsibilities towards unaccompanied children are evaluated. Turkey's being a country subject to irregular migration in recent years, the perception of security created by immigration conceptualized as a human security issue on unaccompanied children, Turkey's point of view towards unaccompanied children and the policies it follows will be discussed.
