The effect of Turkey's political relations with Russia on its trade relations

The effects of political relations between Turkey and Russia on their trade relations can be traced back to the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the two countries. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of political relations on their trade relations and especilly Turkey's foreign trade depending on the political relations between Russia and Turkey from the collapse of Soviet Union up to the present. In 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, centuries of relations between Turkey and Russia has been reached a new dimension. Especially in recent years, since the problems occured after an air attack affected Turkey's foreign trade is directly, it emerges as an issue that should be studied in the academic sense. In this study, the political developments (positive / negative) in recent years have been examined and after these developments, the trade relations between the two countries have been presented in figures. Based on these numerical data, it has been determined that political relations between the two countries have important effects on trade relations. When the political relations between the two countries develop steadily and positively, this situation positively reflects on the trade relations and the trade volume between the two countries increases. However, when there is a political crisis between countries, this affects the trade relations in a negative way. Due to the ongoing ups and downs between Turkey and Russia, the problem of trust was formed between the two countries. Moreover, there are also disagreements on several important political issues. For these reasons, there is always a high probability of political problems between the two countries. Considering the negative effects of these problems on the economies of both countries, the leaders of the two countries have managed to prevent crises that may occur by implementing a sensitive foreign policy in recent years.
