Abstract (EN)
INTRODUCTION AND AIM: The aim of our study is to compare the sensitivity of patients who applied to our pediatric allergy policlinic and who were referred for the skin prick test by having one of the pre-diagnoses of atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis or asthma. Therefore, we think that we will contribute both to the literature by evaluating the risk factors of these indigenous diseases and to the follow-ups and treatments of patients by determining their sensitivity to food and respiratory (inhaler/aeroallergen) allergens in our region. MATERIAL-METHOD:8186 patients between the ages of 2 months and 18 years who applied to the Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital pediatric allergy policlinic with atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis or asthma complaints between May 2013 and May 2018 were included in the study. The patients skin prick test results were evaluated retrospectively. The skin reaction to the allergen that provoked an induration of at least 3 mm and higher in diameter from the negative control was evaluated as a positive response. RESULTS: In our study the sensitivity to house mites and weed pollen was detected at a very high rate corelating with the climate of Sakarya and it was observed that the sensitivity to aeroallergens increased with age. In terms of food allergen sensitivity, the highest sensitivity was detected against wheat. However it was found insignificant because the induration of patients with wheat positivity wasn't compatible with the clinic. Also food allergens were detected more often in the younger age group as opposed to aeroallergens. When evaluated according to the diagnosis, atopic dermatitis patients were frequently seen at a young age and egg sensitivity was found high in these patients. The sensitivity to aeroallergens was high in asthma and allergic rhinitis patients who were getting diagnosed more frequently at older ages. CONCLUSION: The symptoms of these patients are closely relevant to the enviroment they live in and the climate conditions. We think that our data will contribute to the detection of allergen distrubution in our region and will shed light on the wider and more comprehensive studies that are to come.
