Studying in Turkey foreign university student's attitudes to take life saticfaction and psychological assistance

The purpose of this study is to investigate association between international collage students' attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help and their life satisfaction in Turkey. Firstly, we described these students' life satisfaction and their attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help to clarify this purpose. Secondly, we identified correlation between their academic success, grade level, social background, grade retention, past counseling service experience and their life satisfaction, and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. Finally, we explained that correlation between life satisfaction and attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help. Participants who come from different nationality were 170 international college students who were studying in private and state university in Ankara, Turkey. In addition, these participants attended this study voluntarily. The student's attitudes for taking counseling services was measured with Attitudes Toward Counseling Services Scale (Turkun, 1997). The student's life satisfaction was identified with the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS; Diener, Emmons, Larsen & Griffin, 1985). In order to clarify our thesis, we have used One-way analysis of variance and have used simple linear regression. This study showed that no correlation between the students' grade level, social background and life satisfaction. On the other hand, positive relationships between the students' academic success, grade retention, past counseling service experience and life satisfaction. We also found that correlation between the students' attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help and their grade level. Finally, the study identified that strong relationship between attitudes toward seeking professional psychological help and life satisfaction.
