An analysis of studies on teacher qualifications in Turkey

The aim of this research is to examine the studies on teacher qualifications conducted in Turkey between the years 1998-2023. For this purpose, document review technique was used within the scope of qualitative research method in the research. The data source of the research consisted of academic studies on teacher qualifications in Turkey; data were obtained from various sources including Google Scholar, TR Index, Research Gate, Dergipark and YÖK Thesis Center. As a result of the scanning, a total of 114 studies were reached, including 61 master's theses, 18 doctoral theses and 35 research articles. Descriptive analysis technique was used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, when the distribution of studies by years was examined, it was seen that the most studies were conducted in 2020 and the number of studies increased after 2018. The subjects of the studies were gathered under the titles of teacher qualifications, teacher competencies and effective teaching; mostly 84 of the studies were conducted in public schools; 52 of the studies were quantitative, 28 were qualitative and 11 were mixed design; It was seen that the most studies were conducted with teachers with 33 studies; the most commonly used data collection tool in the studies was survey with 59 studies and scale with 54 studies. The results of the studies; It was concluded that teacher qualifications have effects on student success, motivation and classroom management; personal characteristics and professional qualifications of effective teachers are prominent and continuous professional education and research-based strategies are of critical importance for the development of teacher qualifications.
