The current situation of organic plant and animal production in Turkey

The demand for organic products is increasing day by day. This demand led to increases in the number of organic farming countries and farmers in the world, in the amount of organic farming and in the market share of organic agriculture. As a matter of fact, the market share of organic agricultural products as of 2017 has reached 97 billion dollars (Willer and Lernoud, 2019). In order for our country to take the necessary share from this market and to ensure the continuity of product shipment to the market, it is very important to determine the production amounts of the products that are organically grown and the product groups that may be the priority. Our country has a wide product portfolio in terms of organic production. The production quantities of these products are presented on the basis of provinces in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry data. In this study, based on the provincial data for each product, it is aimed to determine the total production amounts of each product and the product groups that are priority for our country and certain provinces. This study, which will be carried out by using the latest data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, is planned to be completed within one year. Possible results from this study: 1.The potential of our country in terms of organic agricultural production will be revealed. 2.It will make significant contributions to the determination of priority product groups in the organic market. 3.In the light of the new data to be obtained, it will lead to some scientific based proposals in order for our country to get a higher share in the organic agricultural market. 4.It will make significant contributions to the entrepreneurs operating in the field of organic agriculture in determining their market and marketing strategies. 5.It will be an important resource for academicians working in the field of organic agriculture.
