Özet (EN)
Policies implemented during the economic development period havechanged with time. In this frame, nationalism practices that started in 30?s,accelerated after World War II and have been prominent in this period. Inmany countries, the share of the state in economy has grown after 30?s andin addition to this, the State Economic Enterprises have been dominant inproduction and in many sectors. However, the stiuation has changed in mid70?s, important decreases have been observed in macro and micro economicindicators. As a result of this process, the share of states in the economy hasstarted to be questioned. The public sector, a dominant player in markets dueto state intervention has been drawn back because of increases in cost andtechnologic developments which couldn?t have been followed. Furthermore, the idea that the state shouldn?t intervene in the economy has been popularagain by the prevalent neo-liberal trend. Parellel to all these developments, the idea of privatization spread rapidly among the countries and took a largepart in the economic development period. The privatization subject in my thesis has been examined firstly byconsidering the share of the state in the economy and the relation of the statewith the economy. By evaluating the types of privatization and theprivatization practices in the world, a more comprehensive information aboutthe structure and the effectiveness of privatization has been tried to bereached.Additionally, the privatization period in Turkey has been discussed indetail and the patterns of privatization in other countries have been exploredin my thesis. The privatization period has been an expensive training periodfor Turkey and it still lasts to be. This period has a great significance for thefuture of Turkey. Given that Turkey?s economic structure is fragile, privatization efforts must be implemented with long term economic and socialstrategies. Privatization is not only a policy of generating income.
