Comparison of the teaching approach and mathematical content of Turkey and Singapore pre-school education programs

In this thesis, the basic principles and mathematical content of Turkey and Singapore pre-school education programs are examined and compared. In this study, document analysis was used as a method. To collect the data, used at 2019 the 2013 Turkey Preschool Education Program and 2013 Turkey Preschool Education Program Activity Book and 2012 Singapore Preschool Curriculum Framework and 2012 Singapore Preschool Education Arithmetic Guide were examined. Content analysis method was used in data analysis. From the findings obtained in that studying when compared with the general structure and the basic principles of preschool education in Turkey and Singapore, although they have similarities in terms of objectives; TOEP is built on development areas; however SOEP is based on learning areas and 6 different guidelines are preponed by using these learning areas. The arithmetic guide of these guidelines consists of learning objectives, strategies, learning environment regulation and observation and evaluation sections for teaching mathematics. According to SOEP, TOEP was weak in terms of its content. In addition, SOEP shares the principles and theories that make it possible for teachers to easily research these theories and principles. Having explanations on how to implement strategies for teaching mathematics in TOEP will facilitate teachers' mathematics teaching. This study will compare the pre-school mathematics curricula of both countries, and will help to make the TOEP more useful and useful by those concerned and developers.
