A praxis in the Turkish left: Peace associations 1947-1980

In socialist thought, democracy, freedom, and peace are approached in a way that is integral/immanent in the whole left paradigm. The contradiction of the relations of production and the demands for peace, freedom, and democracy against the inequality created by the class society structure brought with it were among the basic demands of socialist movements. These demands also provided and continue to provide the social and cultural extensions of socialism as an ideology. Peace demands occupy an important place in the left movements in the world and also in Turkey. The peace demands of the intellectuals against the fascism rising in Europe after the First World War turned into a world committee in 1950 and became institutionalized. The rising demands for peace among socialists became more visible as a result of the nuclear arms race that increased during the Cold War.
