Abstract (EN)
In this research, a study was carried out on the structure, size and development of political, economic and social relations between Turkey and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics between 1964-1971. In the study, Turkey's mutual relations with the USSR in foreign policy, especially in the tense times of the "cold war" years in the period after the military coup of 27 May 1960, were examined, and also the sources of the uneasiness created in domestic politics and public opinion with the progress of relations between the two states. However, as a result of the tension that started between the United States of America and Turkey in these years due to the Cyprus problem, it has been researched how Turkey's turning towards the East caused major problems in domestic and foreign policy, and how it affected the new left movements in the country. In the research, the details of the mutual visits between the two states since 1964 were examined and it was revealed how the traffic of these visits contributed to the cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and cultural fields. In addition to the bilateral contacts, the secret activities of the Soviet administration in Turkey, the secret support provided to the leftist organizations there, as well as the structures that Turkey created in the Soviet Union were also mentioned. At the end of the study, an answer was sought to the question of how the relations that developed during this period gave direction to Turkey's political life at home and abroad in the coming years, and how it laid the groundwork for the period of "ideological wars" in the country. As a matter of fact, in this study, not only the historical dimension of the events, but also its social effects, ideological perceptions and political polarizations created at that time were examined in detail. However, with this perspective presented while analyzing Turkey-USSR relations, it has been possible to define it as a different type of academic texts. Keywords: Turkey, USSR, Foreign Policy, Politics, Soviet.
