The place of Gaziantep in economic relation between Turkey and Syria

Abstract (EN)

After an interval of 90 years between Turkey and Syria who are coming closer to one another, there has been made many co-operations about social, political, commercial, cultural and scientific fields. As well as the geographical proximity between the two countries, the historical and cultural ties have also played an important role in increasing trade volume. In particular within the development of commercial relations between Turkey and Syria a Free Trade Agreement was signed to eliminate factors preventing trade between two countries so trade quickly accelerated. In addition, one of the many projects between Turkey and Syria in terms of developing of commercial co-operations is "Establishing Turkey-Syria Common Free Economic Zone Project" which is the most important project in view of increasing bilateral relations.City of Gaziantep appeals a broad regional market with advanced industrial structure and high trade volume makes border trade with neighbour country Syria through Karkamış Border Gate. Therefore, it attracts attention regarding not only industry but also trade.With the projects which aimed to development the cultural background and the continuity of common culture between Gaziantep and Aleppo having shared the common traditions throughout the history, the cooperations in the fields of economy, trade, industry, transportation, tourism, energy, media and education will go on urgently and this will help these cities develop.
