Abstract (EN)
Single parenthood brings with it various social, economic and psychological difficulties. Immigration status deepens these difficulties, causing the family to become more fragile, and creates roles and responsibilities that increase the burden of single parents. This study presents the issues faced by immigrant women who are single parents living in Turkey; It tries to make socio-economic, psychological and social difficulties visible. In the study conducted with the qualitative research method, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 immigrant single-parent women, who were reached by the purposeful sampling method, and the obtained data were analyzed using the descriptive analysis method and Maxqda application. In this study, the difficulties of being a single parent are discussed in connection with the situation of being an immigrant woman and analyzed with Bourdieu's social capital and Crenshaw's intersectionality approaches. As a result of the research, it was seen that women face basic socio-economic problems such as anxiety about making ends meet, housing problems, working in low-wage and insecure jobs, and inability to access social assistance mechanisms. Psychologically, the feeling of loneliness, burnout, inadequacy, and the psychological burden created by responsibilities towards children and anxiety about the future come to the fore. In social challenges, women are exposed to discrimination and prejudice, inadequate social support networks. Exclusionary attitudes regarding immigrant identity, status uncertainty and language barriers make social integration processes of participants difficult. In the solution suggestions expressed by the participants to improve their living conditions, it is understood that regulations and supportive practices are needed in institutional mechanisms. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the problems experienced by single parent immigrant women arise from structural problems, not individual ones, and that the multi-layered problems experienced by these women should be taken into account when developing social policy recommendations.
