Protection of financial consumers in terms of consumer credit arrangements in Turkey and a Turkey assessment in the context of the social market economy

As a picture of the relation between the social market economy and consumer protection concepts, analyzing the compatibilty level of the protection provided financial consumers in terms of consumer credit aggrements in consideration of the regulations in our laws constitutes our thesis main theme. In the first part of the thesis, financial consumer protection issue is conceptually handled in this context and within this framework consumption and consumer protection processes are handled as a whole, then the concepts regarding the direct financial consumer protection are included. In the second part, the issue of financial consumer protection is put forth in the light of the regulations in Turkish law in terms of consumer credit agreements, with a dissection based on the various phases of the arrangement. While analyzing the issue, EU consumer law and partly the domestic laws of European countries are also utilized. In the third part, it is assessed that how compatible the protection provided financial consumers with referrence to the varios phases of the arrangement which was referred in the second part with the requirements of the social market economy. At the end of the study, by making an overall assessment, it is tried to exhibit how close Turkey to be a social market economy in the context of the protection provided financial consumers in terms of consumer credit arrangements, and in this context our opinions are taken place.
