Comparison of mother language teaching textbooks taught at middle school level (for 12-15 years old) in Turkey and Tunisia

Abstract (EN)

Mother language education aims to improve the written and verbal communication skills. Therefore, language teaching programs and textbooks are developped to meet these goals. This study aims to compare the methods and tools and skill areas of mother language teaching textbooks used in Tunisia and Turkey. The study compares the content of mother language textbooks in the light of the designed in both countries and tries to expose their similarities and differences. The study was designed according to the qualitative descriptive method, as it aims to show the situation in both the mother tongue teaching program and the textbooks. The materials examined in the study are the mother tongue textbooks published by the Ministries of National Education of both countries to be used in public schools for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the 2021-2022 academic year. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the objectives are different between the programs and textbooks of the two countries and the acquisitions for skills are structured differently, and these skills are not regularly distributed in Tunisian textbooks. In addition, an evaluation was made about how much of the achievements that were required to be gained in the textbooks were realized or not.
