A classification of word groups in the Turkish of Turkey

Keywords: Word Groups, Compound Word, Compound Noun. In this study; we have tried to examine the issue of " Word Groups" in the Turkish of Turkey. We tried to explain what is meant by the concept of" Word Groups"? We have concluded that there are different opinions on the meaning attached the concept. It is concluded that there are differance among linguists in regard to the definitions and classification criteria used for word groups, sentence and sentences components of the sentence. In the Turkish of Turkey, sentences containing infintive phrases, participles and adverbs are regarded as a simple sentence by many linguists. Some linguists, homewer, claim that these syntax are compound ones proponents of these views are given in the study. The classification of word groups in the Turkish of Turkey was reviewed and unearthed together with the differences in this classification. Also in this study definitions to the word groups made by the linguists were presented. Also the limitations of these classification schmata are discussed. To sum up, in the light of the findings of this study, a number of suggestions were made in order to help solving problems associated with the word groups in the Turkish of Turkey. VII
