Government?s position and importance on development of transportation sector of Turkey

Transportation is an important element effecting all segments of a community. In addition, this sector has both direct and indirect relations between a large number of other sectors. Therefore, for the weaknesses of transportation sector will affect the other sectors negatively, a developed transportation sector is well needed. In the contrary, development of other sectors will be blocked because of deficiency of transportation. In our country, it is widely seen that there are some imbalances between transportation types and transportation sector has growed without a plan. Highway transportation has a high share and unregistered income is almost high. Despite the fact that Turkey?s both three sides are surrounded by seas, sea transportation has not been given importance in national transportation and in addititon to this, railway transportation ,if ı may say so,has stopped after 1940s. Airway transportation has started to develop after private sector?s access to market. More developments are seen within the context of privatization.In the first chapter of our study aiming government?s position and importance on development of transportation sector of Turkey ,we have given description of transportation and explained its social and economical functions. In addition, datas about transportation sectors all over the world are given.In second chapter, the historical development of highway,railway,sea way and pipe line transportations ,the legal positions of these ,their infrastructures and problems are discussed.In third chapter, while determining supplements of transportation sector to income, the legal regulations are evaluated in terms of investments, qualified work power,environment and tourism.In consequence, we point that making policies that support the types of transportation and planning infrastructural and legal regulations in order to develop the transportation system are needed to be induced and supported.
